Fairfax County’s annual Road Shark campaign is in full swing again, and if you have received a traffic or reckless driving citation recently, it’s no coincidence.
What is Road Shark?
Launched in 1999, Road Shark is a high-visibility enforcement program led by the Fairfax County Police Department in partnership with the Virginia State Police. It’s goal? Crack down on driving offenses, from speeding to DUI, in targeted areas and educate the community on the dangers of reckless driving behavior.
2025 Road Shark Citations
The 2025 Road Shark campaign kicked off on March 17, organizing enforcement into monthly “waves.” Each wave lasts one week of March, April, June, August, and October.
So far, the 2025 Road Shark initiative has resulted in over 17,500 citations and warnings in just the first two weeks of the campaign. Last year, the Road Shark campaign resulted in nearly 35,000 citations and warnings, so more are sure to come.
What Does this Mean for My Case?
You should expect stricter enforcement during the Road Shark campaign. FCPD and VSP ramps up patrols and citations significantly during its waves. You should also expect more reckless driving charges than usual. Officers may make traffic stops for minor infractions, but that does not always justify a reckless driving charge. What is Reckless Driving?
