      Matthew Cox

      Matt is an associate attorney in the Criminal Defense and Data & Privacy Law practice groups. He is licensed to practice in Virginia and California, and is committed to finding creative, holistic solutions for his clients that are tailored to each client’s needs.

      In the Criminal Defense practice group, he passionately advocates for clients in Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, Loudoun, and other counties across Virginia, as well as those facing federal charges in the Eastern District of Virginia. Matt represents clients in misdemeanor matters, including DUI/DWI, reckless driving, carrying a weapon in an airport, larceny, protest offenses, and assault and battery. Matt also works with the Criminal Defense practice group on more serious felony charges, including grand larceny, drug cases, robbery, probation violations, felon in possession of a firearm, and malicious wounding.

      In the Data & Privacy Law practice group, Matt’s practice focuses on counseling businesses on compliance with state, federal, and international privacy regulations, focusing on the California Consumer Privacy Act, the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, GDPR, and HIPAA. Matt also assists businesses respond to law enforcement requests for data.

      Matt joined the firm after receiving his law degree from The George Washington University Law School. Prior to joining the firm, he worked at the United States Sentencing Commission where he supported data driven criminal justice research and became well-versed in applying the sentencing guidelines to federal criminal matters.
