Kimberly LaFave
Kimberly LaFave
Kimberly LaFave is an experienced paralegal with over 14 years of experience, which she brings to the Family Law Practice Group. As the senior family law paralegal, she supervises the support team and assists each of the attorneys at the firm on divorce, custody, modification, and support matters while maintaining her Alternative Dispute Resolution and Coaching practices.
She works with clients to help them navigate the processes involved in their cases, assisting them in collecting information and documentation relevant to their matters. She drafts correspondence, proposals, agreements, pleadings, and discovery requests and responses. During litigation, she works closely with both the client and the attorneys to prepare the case for trial, including interviewing potential witnesses, managing evidence, and often providing emotional support to clients.
In 2013, Kimberly completed the Family Mediator Professional Certification program through Northern Virginia Mediation Services and is also a Certified Divorce, Transitions and Recovery Coach, and Co-Parenting Coach. Her passion is conflict de-escalation and resolution. In 1995, she became a facilitator for the National Coalition Building Institute, where she conducted numerous university, community, and government sector workshops in the Northern Virginia area on such issues as welcoming diversity, parent-teen communication, and workplace conflict resolution. Although not appropriate in all cases, she finds it particularly satisfying as a family law mediator to facilitate couples working together to reach agreements that are finely tuned to their families’ circumstances and needs.
Kimberly serves on the Board of Directors of the Paralegal Association of Northern Virginia. She is an active member of the Fairfax Bar Association, participating in the Paralegal Section where she has previously served as Chair, Vice-Chair, and Continuing Legal Education Coordinator. She is also an active member of and holds her Advanced Certified Paralegal designations from NALA – The Paralegal Association, where she completed the inaugural class of LEAD in 2024, an elite nine-month program designed to grow leaders to shape the future of the organization and the paralegal profession nationwide.
